Newsletter - The Nook Release

I am proud to announce that The Nook is officially released!

The Nook is a full length instrumental straight-ahead jazz album. The music harks back to Miles Davis’ first great quintet. John Swana, veteran Philadelphia trumpeter, guest appears on valve trombone.

"[Vince's] horn croons and wahs with touches of funk or blues, bridging the futuristic digital age with a snazzy sense of classic cool” (Geno Thackara All About Jazz). I am joined on The Nook by John Swana (valve trombone), Brian Blaker (tenor saxophone), John B Hedges (piano), Ben Basile (upright bass), and Charlie Heim (percussion).

The Nook is my fifth solo release; his first to use exclusively acoustic instruments. The album features five pieces composed by me. “The Nook” (co-written with Ben Basile) is a raucous blues named for the spandrel at Tattooed Mom Bar, Philadelphia, PA. John Swana guests on “Two Dollar Breakfast Special,” named for a menu item at the Main Street Bistro, New Paltz, NY. Jazz standard “Dear Old Stockholm” is re-arranged to interpolate a number of other jazz standards. All tracks were recorded live at Elm Street Studios, Conshohocken, PA.

Celebrate The Nook with me at the release show: Wednesday, October 3, 8:00pm-midnight at Chris's Jazz Cafe. Hear cuts from this album as well as music from my previous albums and select jazz standards. I'll be joined on stage by Hiruy (Henry) Tirfe (tenor saxophone, Julian Hartwell (piano), Ben Basile (upright bass), and Charlie Heim (percussion).

I hope you enjoy The Nook and look forward to seeing you at the release show!
