Horace Silver: Sister Sadie

Horace Silver recorded Blowin' the Blues Away for Blue Note on August 30, 1959. This Hard Bop album features a quintet with Silver himself playing piano, Junior Cook (tenor saxophone), Blue Mitchell (trumpet), Gene Taylor (bass), and Louis Hayes (drums). "Sister Sadie," written by Silver, is a bluesy vamp with a bridge that utilizes the popular AABA form. The arrangement features two shout choruses and is a prime example of motivic development within the Jazz idiom.
